“What was the night like?”“Clear”

from The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht

A story in pictures inspired by The Life of Galileo, a play by Bertolt Brecht, which looks at the various areas of corporate culture that are promoted by the Pirelli Foundation: music, theatre, art, literature, research, innovation, and sustainability.

The set is a geography of places and worlds of the imagination. There is the archive, with over four kilometres of shelving preserved at the heart of the company headquarters, with a wealth of historical and contemporary values and memories.

And there is the factory as a place of community, of work and knowledge, now a realm of rituals and new myths – the epitome of industrial humanism.

The Pirelli Research and Development laboratories, where rubber is transformed by a long-standing knowledge of materials and an alchemical understanding of the compounds and of the geometric properties of surfaces, patterns and carvings.

“Already much has been discovered, but there is more still to be found out”.from The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht

We are taken on a journey through places, words and faces, reminding us that “we are” business, memory, and future.

Story-board

The protagonists appear in a symphonic performance where the iconic circle – an emblem of the product – inspires the cinematic language. A circular beam of light acts as the unifying thread of the narrative, illuminating the various scenes and sets, and lending an air of theatricality even to settings unrelated to the artistic performances.
